Design and Looks
The Betouch E101 sports a slide form factor and has a minimalistic design. The phone has a glossy finish and is a complete fingerprint magnet. The device is completely made of plastic but sports a nice style and elegant looks. The most interesting part of the design is the touch sensitive wheel that works as a virtual scroll wheel and also as a direction pad too.
The slider mechanism on the phone is sturdy and feels safe opening it out. The left spine of the phone contains the screen lock, volume rocker and miniUSB port. Whereas the right side houses the camera shutter button.
The numeric keypad on the phone is a 3 by 4 alphanumeric keypad which is a pleasure to type on with a good click feedback to your fingers. The keys are well laid out except for the first row that's too close to the phones upper body which might be a little annoying to people with large fingers.
The screen on the display is the 3.2 inch resistive touch screen with a maximum resolution of 240x400 pixels. There is good image quality and it comes with passable sensitivity on the Windows interface.
The camera on the phone is a 3.2 megapixel sensor. The interface on the camera is ordinary and does not provide a lot of creative features to play around. The performance of the camera is good and efficient with fast focus and snapshots. The images shot using the camera are ordinary but good in detail. The color reproduction is on an average and does not compromise a lot. The sensor on the phone is also able to capture videos at a maximum resolution of 320x240 pixels.
The interface on the device is the Windows Mobile 6.5 interface which does an average job considering the usual annoyance with windows phones in getting around your applications quickly. The phone responds well though to the commands and has a faster response. The Windows Media Player on the device can also handle DivX and Xvid files giving it a real good feature set.
The phone has an average battery life compared to most touch screen phones giving about 5 hours of talk time and 400 hours of standby time.
Overall the phone works out nicely on its feature and gives you a little bit of everything on the feature set. The phone is not an ideal choice if you're in possession of a windows platform already but a nice start for people migrating on to a different platform.
