Design and Looks
The phone is surely a huge device to be held in your palms and has dimensions of 118.6x63x12mm and weighs about 130g. The front real estate is completely occupied by the huge 3.8 inch screen which is capable of displaying about 480x800 pixels. It features the accelerometer sensor for auto rotate and proximity sensor for auto turn-off. Sunlight eligibility on the device surely is a lacking feature as the screen does not provide good colors in the sunlight and fails poorly.
Just under the screen the phone houses the touch sensitive and haptic enable controls which are the call buttons, home and the Back key.
The handset is completely made of plastic but does not make it in anyways a cheap looking phone. That said the device is a finger print magnet and within no time the handset would be covered with smudges.
The left spine of the device contains the hardware lock key whereas the right side of the phone includes the volume rocker, reset hole and the camera shutter key.
The top of the handset covers the 3.5 mm audio jack and the stylus compartment The bottom houses the microphone and the microUSB port.
The interface on the phone is the new Windows Mobile 6.5 which features nothing special but some improvements over the previous ones such as shortcuts and comes with a new main menu. The main menu contains all the new installed programs plus the shortcut to the settings menu.
The Acer neoTouch S200 sports a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and can shoot images with a maximum image resolution of 2592x1944 pixels. The camera has a decent interface and does not complicate things up at all. It's easy to work with camera functions and is hassle free. The pictures shot do not promise great color reproduction but offer a good details considering the 5 mega pixel range.
The video recording on the neoTouch offers VGA recording up to 30fps. The interface is similar to the still camera interface and therefore does not get complicated at all.
The connectivity on the handset is very impressive and it comes with HSDPA , HSUPA along with the Wi-Fi , stereo Bluetooth +EDR. The phone itself is a quad phone therefore making it a usable around the world. The built in GPS on the handset comes along with the assisted GPS technology, and therefore current satellite data can be downloaded over Wi-Fi or the 2G/3G network.
Overall the phone is definitely a competitor featuring a strong 1 GHZ processor which should ring some bells among other manufacturers. On the interface side, the Acer surely lacks customizations from their end on the Windows interface which could take advantage of the mammoth processor.
